last time I saw Ashcroft it seemed like his head was down absorbed in his own moroseness. This time a true showman urged us to revel in our collective moroseness. which we DID!! The new stuff is danceable and way fun. The proof: How often do you hear indie-britpop-hipsters singing nu-disco anthems on their way out of the theatre?
Ashcroft was in perfect voice; catch him if you can.

I strongly considered going to the Verve gig here in SF, but bagged — I am starting to dislike The Warfield as a venue, and the LiveNation ownership of it leaves me queasy — like you feel after eating a double-bacon-cheeseburger. Sure do love their early stuff (admitted obsessive fanboy here has just about every early import single) for that powerful swirly psych wall o noize punch! Saw them twice, and both times Richard played the messiah-role oh so well. But again — I return to McCabe’s guitar-work…. Saving the shekles for reunion gigs from Swervedriver and My Bloody Valentine. Oh my! Shoegaze-a-riffic! Could Toni and Dean bring back Curve for just a wee tour??

Hey QT — Did you go to the Stars of the Lid performance? It was bliss for eyes as well as ears…
